Running a receiver off the cigarette socket works, and it also means a lead across the console and a unit that dies whenever somebody unplugs it to charge a phone. The PWR-12 is the tidy version: it taps an existing fuse, runs behind the trim, and gives you a switched supply that comes up with the ignition.
The regulator matters if you are in a van or a light truck. A 24 V system will destroy a receiver expecting 12 V, and a lot of cheap leads are a fuse and two wires with no regulation at all. This one regulates and is fused at both ends.
The add-a-circuit tap is the reversible way to do this. It sits in an existing fuse position, carries the original circuit through untouched, and adds yours alongside on its own fuse. Nothing is cut, and the vehicle goes back to standard by pulling one part.
